Probuild has been engaged for demolition and enabling works, which will see the site being made ready for major excavation work due to begin in early 2018. At approximately 13 hectares, across land and water, the precinct occupies approximately 10% of the Brisbane CBD area, and Probuild is tasked to remove 160,000 tonnes of material during the demolition of three of the city's former government buildings.
The entire integrated resort development at Queen's Wharf Brisbane will take around seven years to complete, however, the core of the development is slated to open in 2022. A short video of the proposed development is available here, or visit Destination Brisbane Consortium's Queen's Wharf Brisbane's website.
In 2016, Destination Brisbane Consortium finalised the detailed design of Queen's Wharf Brisbane to enable the start of early works.
Comprehensive engagement with the Brisbane community also occurred throughout the year to ensure high levels of awareness regarding the start of early works, including the temporary closure of a section of William Street and the permanent full closure of Queens Wharf Road. In December 2016, the consortium appointed Probuild as the demolition and enabling works contractor.
